KALAMAZOO, MI - The city of Kalamazoo has partnered with local developer Treystar to extend a street and create parking in a downtown area primed for development.
Staff within various departments in the city of Kalamazoo have been working together for years on plans to reconnect street grids within the city. Monday, the City Commission approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Treystar, working as River's Edge Partners LLC, to extend Harrison Street south from M-43 and build a storm water retention pond for $425,000.
The Harrison Street extension will run alongside Treystar's $11 million foundry development at 600 E. Michigan Ave., with future plans to extended to Pitcher Street to facilitate travel among future developments.
The 600 E. Michigan building was originally a metal foundry but has only been used for warehousing over the past few years.
Working as River's Edge Partners LLC, Treystar has been working since to transform an overlooked former metal foundry into an office complex with sprawling communal spaces and an attached restaurant.
